History

The Housing Authority was established in 1953 for the purpose of providing decent cost effective housing in Wilson. We currently own and manage 707 conventional housing units, which range from one (1) bedroom to five (5) bedrooms. We administer 637 Housing Choice (Section Eight) Vouchers.

Our goal is to maintain a stock of good affordable housing to meet the needs of our citizens, while providing an environment where families can live, raise their children and feel safe. The housing authority has a full time police officer and two police substations, plus exceptional partnership with our local police department.

Wilson Police Department Senior Officer Kolly Burritt works with the Wilson Housing Authority to provide a community presence and help ensure that our properties are safe places for all of our residents.

We have a number of programs and services to meet the needs of the near elderly, elderly, disabled, children and parents including the Family Self-Sufficiency program.

For more information about these programs please contact our Resident Services Coordinator and FSS Director Cathy Kent at 291-2245 ext. 245.
